Google aims to brand audio more attainable with two new Android apps

Live Transcribe uses deject-based speech recognition to turn speech into text, while Sound Amplifier improves audio quality in noisy environments

Google has announced two new apps the company developed to help make audio more accessible for anybody.

The first app, chosen Live Transcribe, uses cloud-based automated oral communication recognition to brandish spoken words on a phone screen.

The idea for Live Transcribe came from Chet Gnegy, a inquiry scientist who'southward teammate, Dimitri Kanevsky, is hearing dumb. Kanevsky worked on speech recognition and communications technologies he relies on for 30 years. One such applied science, called CART, features a captioner virtually join a meeting to mind and transcribe spoken dialogue.

Gnegy saw some of the challenges Kanevsky faced with the system — such as conveying multiple devices, expense and the need for significant prep before use.

Gnegy worked with the Accessibility team to build a prototype tool to help Kanevsky, which afterward became Alive Transcribe. The app uses a telephone's microphones to listen to and transcribe spoken communication in existent-fourth dimension.

Google says the application could potentially assist give people who are deafened or hard of hearing more independence in their everyday interactions.

Farther, the search giant partnered with Gallaudet University, a university for deaf and hard of hearing people, to help design Live Transcribe and ensure it meets the needs of their customs.

Live Transcribe is available in over 70 languages and dialects. Further, it allows for two-way chat via a blazon-back keyboard for users who can't or don't want to speak. The app besides works with external microphones to improve transcription accuracy.
